An anticipated home opener

After the season opening debacle at Anfield last week, West Ham United will hope for a reversal of fortunes in their home debut at the London Stadium, when they take on plucky Bournemouth.

All of the tremendous hype from the summer unlike any other for the Irons quickly went into the wind with the 4-0 comprehensive defeat to Liverpool, and Manuel Pellegrini already has become the latest boss of this club to feel swift negative vibes. But with his years of success throughout the game, he will demand nothing more than to right the ship immediately.

Without a doubt, it is as attacking as it can for Pellegrini’s home opener, with a 4-4-2 lineup seeing Javier Hernandez make his first start of the season in partnering with Marko Arnautovic. Also, both Robert Snodgrass and Pablo Zabaleta come in, with Declan Rice, Michail Antonio and Ryan Fredericks all dropped not only from the first XI, but the entire matchday 18 all together.

It is offensive minded as it gets for the Hammers, but they will face a Bournemouth side very capable of scoring goals themselves and having success against their next opponents. Eddie Howe’s side have both Callum Wilson and Josh King already in decent form, and will also have Ryan Fraser be a threat as well.

The Hammers know a bounce back is needed from last week’s opening thrashing. The new manager for sure wants to regain all of the excitement of a glorious preseason with a resounding first home match at the London Stadium.

With West Ham do just that? We’ll see. It will be exciting all the way!
