Sky Sports report that West Ham United are in advanced talks with Sampdoria over a possible transfer of Pedro Obiang. The 26-year-old midfielder could leave London Stadium for £8.9 million.

Obiang joined the Hammers from Sampdoria in 2015 as the first signing of the Slaven Bilic era. Who could forget the shambolic way David Gold tweeted the announcement? Complete with picture of Angelo Ogbonna.

Last week The Daily Mail reported that Obiang was eager to return to Italy, the Spain Under-21 international’s place might have been in jeopardy in Pellegrini’s re-shaped midfield. West Ham have so far signed Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson, which may have squeezed Obiang out of his place in the centre of midfield.

Obiang’s contract at West Ham is due to expire in 2022, if he does leave Southampton’s Mario Lemina could be a potential replacement.
