Almost unbelievably West Ham have recorded back-to-back wins, for the first time in almost two years. After last night’s glorious 3-1 spanking of Cardiff City, there is genuine unbridled optimism from the Irons faithful. Not since the salad days of that first Bilic and Payet season have we tasted such exhilaration.

Last night, we witnessed a brace from Lucas Perez - his first top flight goal for 700 days - meanwhile, Michail Antonio got his first of the season. Pushing the Irons up to the heights of 12th, our upcoming fixtures include the likes of Crystal Palace, Fulham, Watford, Burnley and Southampton. Should we capitalise on this run, West Ham would be firmly in the top-half in the new year.

Speaking to The Independent Antonio urged the squad to move forward.

“We’ve scored six goals in the last two games now. We didn’t get any points from the first four games this season, so now we’re clawing back those points we missed out on at the start.

”We need to take points from the teams around us in the next few games and see how high we can go in the league.”

There’s a lot to be decided during the Christmas period, and Marko Arnautovic’s injury could make this harder. But with the goals coming more regularly we could see some positives from the squad.
