While the season hasn’t started out too fuego for our Swiss man Edimilson Fernandes, he’s done enough to join his fellow countrymen during this international break. And what a campaign Switzerland has had so far in World Cup qualification!
The Swiss have found three points in all seven matches they’ve played in, including a 2-0 defeat over European Champions, Portugal. Their latest victory came in the form of a 3-0 win over the tiny nation of Andorra, with two goals coming from Haris Seferovic (Benefica) and another from Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus).
In the 74th minute, Edimilson Fernandes replaced Admir Mehmedi on the pitch to close out the rest of the match. Fernandes was the second sub used after Denis Zakaria came in 10 minutes earlier. This is a great sign as to the extent of international footballing experience Fernandes will see in the coming years. The Swiss are a lock to make Russia, giving young Edimilson, just 21 years of age, a real look at top flight football. Clearly, Vladimir Petković is a fan of Fernandes and looks to be utilizing him in their future fixtures.

One can only hope Edimilson uses this time to find his touch, and bring it home to West Ham United.
