West Ham United did what they were suppose to do, and that’s win their EFL Cup second round contest against League Two side Cheltenham United Wednesday evening, by the scoreline 2-0.
Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew opened up their accounts for the 2017-18 with goals just before halftime to see Slaven Bilic’s side advance to the competition’s third round and secure their first victory of the season.
Still, it wasn’t the smoothest of displays for the Hammers, but it did see James Collins secure his 200th appearance with the club and Cheikhou Kouyate return to action with his own season debut in the second half.
Here are the recap of West Ham’s goals from the club’s Twitter page.
Byram threads it to @iamdiafrasakho, who turns in the box and coolly slots into the far corner!#CHEWHU 0-1 (40)

West Ham will hope their first winning ways of the season continue on Saturday, when they face fellow pointless side Newcastle in an already pressurized contest.
