Last Season

A player signed with little fanfare, it’s difficult to put a word to the performances of Edimilson Fernandes. He certainly wasn’t poor, in fact, he was one of the more impressive players considering his age. However, considering the high standards he set playing for Sion, Fernandes saw a slight drop off in form.

Fernandes impressed with his versatility and cool headed passing. Fernandes played every position, from wingback to number 10. However, he was primarily utilized as a Center Midfielder. Fernandes also helped his place in the team by being one of only a few players to avoid injury.

Making 8 starts in the league, along with 4 in different cup matches, Fernandes was by far the most trusted young player. He also earned an incredible 20 appearances as a substitute, showing that Bilic rates the youngster as a calming influence who can help bring games home, and a skillful enough player to help break down blockaded defenses.

Current Team Placement

So far, West Ham has yet to add anyone to midfield. That means Fernandes is in about the same situation as he was before the start of the last season.

A back up, and one of the first off the bench, there's an outside chance that Fernandes progresses to a starter this season. Should he continue fulfill his potential, it could be hard to argue against a first team place

Goals For This Season

In the current situation, Fernandes is the most likely player to break through from West Ham’s ranks of youth stars. With a full first team place, and a point to prove, Fernandes is looking to validate the expectations of fans.

Even if he can’t win a starting spot, Fernandes has been earmarked as one for the future by fans at the London stadium. With the potential to be a genuine international star, the next season is an opportunity for Fernandes to become a major player in the premier league.
