It’s finally happened! West Ham United have signed a proven striker. Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will ply his trade at the London Stadium next season.
Here are how Brace the Hammer’s feel about the signing.
Jackson Schmidtke:
I’m thrilled by this signing! I think Chicharito could end up being the signing of the transfer window in the Premier League much the way a certain Frenchman was a few years ago. At around £16 million we’re getting a steal. Hernandez will be a great complement to Andy Carroll (when the Geordie Jesus is healthy) but will also do well with Manuel Lanzini, Michail Antonio, Andre Ayew, and Marko Arnautovic making runs at defenders into the box.
Pete Schlenker
Still a top-class striker and will strike fear in the hearts of most PL defenses. A good pairing with Andy Carroll, he can poach goals and run onto knocked down balls played up for Carroll to head on in a classic "big-little" combo up top. He's not getting any younger, but given his transfer fee and the crazy pills that everyone has taken in regards to prices, not a bad deal.
Chad Hoy
I'm incredibly excited for this signing. This is something that the club has been needing to do for two years now. Looks like the board are learning that top talent doesn't come cheap. Chicharito is 29, but as one of the editors, Thomas, has stated before, he's "a right poacher" and he could be playing well into his 30s. He's somewhat of a short-term solution, but we'll get a few very good years from Javy and then I believe we'll buy up some younger talent. This is a good move for the future because it proves that West Ham is "still a big club," and I think it will make it less difficult to persuade bigger names to come to East London for the future.
Garett Kerber
I’ll echo what so many have said: to get a proven striker with Premier League experience for the deal that they got him is maybe the best thing about an overall awesome signing. That he has something to prove, likely faces his old club, Manchester United, in his first match, and from an off the field standpoint, brings more recognition to the Hammers are all major bonuses, as well. I can’t wait to see this new look squad in action!
Brian Tenerowicz
The Chicharito signing is absolutely class for me. The release clause Leverkusen set made this a no brainer. A striker is something we've needed for a long time, and I think Chicharito is a perfect fit.
Trevor Criswell
Very excited about this signing. He brings PL quality add a new dimension to the Hammers attack. The flexibility Hernandez gives Bilic up front cannot be understated, with him, AC, Sakho, Fletcher and (maybe) Martinez, we suddenly have a formidable strike force that can adapt and change the style of play.
Wallace Milner
Chicharito is more or less the perfect signing for us. Premier League proven, a brilliant finisher and an adept all around footballer, he could be the player to fire us to Europe.
Tom Atherton
Best bit of business so far this transfer window by ANY Premier League side, at the price we paid he’s an absolute coup and given the different service we can offer Chicharito, and the dynamic South-American duo he’ll entertain with Manuel Lanzini, this can only mean goals goals goals for West Ham next season.
