Since Winston Reid can’t save the Kiwis in the Confederations Cup, Jose Fonte is the other West Ham player in this otherwise tiring, antiquated tournament.
Despite winning the Euros last summer, Fernando Santos has decided to bring his A team to Russia and could possibly play three straight summers in June. They still have to qualify for the World Cup finals though. Portugal are in second place in their European Qualifiers group and could endure another nervous playoff tie, as they did four years ago for Brazil 2014 against Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sweden.
Anyway, this will be a tough test for Portugal after hammering Latvia last week in an expected victory. Fonte still is preferred with Pepe as the centerback pair after their terrific performances in France last summer. The Selecao could certainly take this tournament with a weaken Germany, potentially attrition challenged Chile and the sometimes fragile CONCACAF power Mexico as the only teams who can prevent another Cristiano title.
Anyway, this is for Hammer Jose Fonte. Enjoy!
