Kouyate: Swansea win is for Bilic and the fans

The versatile star discussed his match winning goal

West Ham midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate described his side’s 1-0 massive victory over Swansea City Saturday as being one for the entire Hammers community, especially manager Slaven Bilic.

Kouyate’s terrific strike in the 44th minute was the difference in a crucial three points for the Hammers, as they were truly in a six-pointer after suffering five straight defeats. It was only fitting that the Senegalese international chose to celebrate with the fans.

“Today, this victory is very important for the team, because we had a few difficult weeks,” Kouyate said in the post match interview. “This victory is good for the fans, for the players and for the staff.”

“This is my most important goal for West Ham. This goal came in a good moment. “I got there because this goal is very very important for me. After I take a yellow card because I go to the fans (laughs). A fan took my head. But the very important thing is not my goal, but the victory today. The victory today. Continue to focus and continue to work hard.”

The versatile described the close bond that Bilic has with his players, and how they badly wanted to win for him.

“I like him, yesterday, he tells me, ‘Cheikhou, I like you, you like me? Yes, of course I like him, haha. I like the man, I like the boss, this guy is unbelievable, he works hard for the team and for the players. This victory is good for him tonight.”
