Pedro Obiang has been one of the most consistent players for West Ham United this season. After starting his West Ham career slowly in the 2015-16 season, Obiang has been a rock for the Hammers in midfield this year. In fact, his play at the start of the season was one of the lone bright spots for much of the slow start at the London Stadium.
With Mark Noble often appearing a step slower than in previous years and Cheikhou Kouyaté either pulled back into defense or away for duty with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations in Januray, Obiang has had to be a constant presence in the centre of the pitch, even popping up and scoring a wonder goal against Southampton FC in the league match at St Mary’s earlier this month.

Apparently, Obiang’s performances have not only impressed Hammer fans and the manager, but also the drawn the attention of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool FC. The Sun is reporting that Klopp is said to be interested in buying Obiang in the summer transfer window, with the offering price rumored to be 18 million pounds. That price would be an absolute boon for the club, as Obiang only cost the Hammers 5 million when he transferred to East London from Sampdoria in July of 2015.
West Ham are rumored to be interested in opening talks on a new contract with Obiang as well, so while Liverpool might be interested in signing another midfield cog to take another run at the Premier League title, West Ham won’t want to let him go cheaply and without a replacement, since he has been an important member of the squad that has turned around the team’s fortunes after the Dimitri Payet saga. Here’s hoping that Obiang’s new contract keeps him at the London Stadium for the extended future.
