Let’s all just stop what we’re doing right now and think about where Andy Carroll would be if he was never injured. Seriously, stop reading and just day dream for a second. He’s probably a mainstay on the English national team. Harry Kane and Diego Costa are probably looking up at Carroll’s goal tally instead of down. Alright, now let reality settle back in. I know, I’m sorry too.

Forget the ‘what ifs’! We shouldn’t let all this injury talk detract from what is a momentous occasion for all Hammer fans! Andy Carroll’s wonder goal beat out Olivier Giroud’s scorpion kick to win a pretty cool accolade. Here are both goals so you can go back and judge for yourself, which finish was more impressive.

To be fair both goals are quite amazing. I know I’m going to get a bit of slack here from my friends at The Short Fuse, but Giroud’s goal seemed to demand a bit of luck whereas Carroll’s goal required more concentration and focus.

Andy Carroll told West Ham United’s club site:

"I'm delighted to have won the Goal of the Month competition, especially given how good some of the other goals were. As soon as I hit it I knew it was in, I got a good connection and knew it would hit the back of the net. It's definitely the best goal I've ever scored, one I'm very proud of.
