West Ham United know they will again need a strong performance if they are to avoid defeat against another elite side, when they face off against Chelsea in their latest London derby marquee clash.
David Moyes is hoping his 19th place side can build off their narrow 2-1 loss to Manchester City last week, but he will be in need of wins right now to prevent the Hammers from being in a season long fight for survival. Despite the returns of star line-leading forwards Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez, Moyes has decided to leave them on the bench, as well as Diafra Sakho again. Instead, he has gone again with Michail Antonio to lead the line vs the Blues.
Also of note in the starting lineup today is the return of captain Mark Noble and Adrian displacing Joe Hart as the Hammers #1 goalkeeper for at least this game.
For Antonio Conte’s reigning champions, it is another formidable squad with only David Luiz and Danny Drinkwater out. The holding midfield trifecta of N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas will all start for Chelsea, as they seek to try and possibly get into the title race with the Manchester derby occurring on Sunday.
Will the Hammers somehow find a way to get something out of this latest London derby at home? Or will Chelsea heap more major questions on the David Moyes Era?
