West Ham United made it three wins out of three, as they defeated struggling Swansea 4-1 on Boxing Day 2016.
It was only fitting that Andre Ayew scored his first goal for his new team by doing it against his old side. The Ghana international, just a few matches away from leaving the club for the African Cup of Nations, heaped more misery on his former fans by placing home a header from a Andy Carroll knockdown in the 13th minute.
Despite Swansea City growing in belief towards the end of the first half and after the break, the Hammers got the key second goal of the match in the 50th minute, when Winston Reid produced a terrific header from a fine corner delivery from Dimitri Payet.
Michail Antonio sealed the victory for Slaven Bilic’s side in the 78th minute, with a tap in goal instead of another patent header goal from the England versatile man.
Fernando Llorente did get one for the home side with a good finish after Nathan Dyer beat Aaron Cresswell in the 89th minute. But Carroll gave more holiday carols of joy for West Ham by scoring a minute later to wrap up a third consecutive victory for the Hammers.
As they leave struggling Swansea City, West Ham faces another team in shaky form in Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on New Year’s Eve.
