Aaron Cresswell is, very openly, a Liverpool fan. Liverpool are, very openly, in need of a LB. No prizes for guessing where this is going. He was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer which never materialised but now, armed with some tenuous proof, the rumour mill is starting to whir again.
Aaron Cresswell touched the "This is Anfield" sign before walking out onto the pitch at the weekend and therefore is moving to Liverpool. I know, it's basically watergate.
If Aaron had looked distracted by the occassion I would maybe start to worry but I see this as nothing more than a Liverpool fan doing something most Liverpool fans would dream of doing. Touching the sign before going out to play at the home of the club they love.
And that's OK. There is nothing wrong with that. Footballers are all too often forced by circumstances to be emotionless contractors for hire. I welcome any kind of passion. It didn't exactly effect his performance with WhoScored, whose ratings are done via statistics, giving him Man of the Match.
Now if only Simone Zaza would touch a sign somewhere...
