Slaven Bilic has told BT Sport that he does not expect the club to panic buy when the January transfer window opens up. The second year manager told BT Sport “We are not thinking about the transfer window solving all our problems.” Bilic also said “Of course every club will look at 1 or 2 players, but not on that scale.”
As has been reported recently, Daniel Sturridge is on the outs at Liverpool, and Watford captain Troy Deeney has been linked to West Ham as well to solve their striker problems.
This attitude from Bilic is not a surprising one. This squad is practically identical to the squad that got them an 8th place finish last year, and they did not lose any big name players in the summer. They only added players like Sofiane Feghouli, Andre Ayew, and so on. The only two noticeable lack of areas are at striker, and right back, with players like Zaza, Arbeloa, and Nortdveit not making a lot of noise.
Bilic knows that this squad is much better than their table ranking right now. To be honest, I think everyone knows that this squad is better than their table ranking right now. If he makes no changes to the squad, the team will turn it around, will get clearance from the relegation zone, and will be able to finish somewhere around 10th place.
But if he does get a look at Sturridge or Deeney this window, it could make the squad pull a complete 180, and get back to the beautiful play which saw them fighting for a European spot most of last year.
