Reece Oxford is very close to signing a new deal that would keep in West London for the foreseeable future. At only 17, we’ve seen glimpses of what this kid can do and he is one of the more highly rated defenders. Over the past week there have been rumors that Manchester United were looking to swoop in and poach the U20 English international. It looks like that potential nightmare is almost behind us.

This isn’t the first time we have heard contract talks were almost completed with Oxford. Back in May talks broke down when Reece rejected West Ham’s offer. Since then, he has only been featured twice this year, with both appearances coming in the Europa League. Prior to that, he was featured in a 2-0 win at Arsenal with 6 appearances after to help the Hammers finish 7th.

With James Collins and Winston Reid both looking at their thirties, Reece is the clear future of West Ham’s back line. They need to lock this down now, and quickly. Right now, they have until 2018 to convince Reece this is the place to be, or he will be eligible to look for other suitors.
